DSW CHAIR 1950 - by Charles & Ray Eames

Timeless icon of the mid-century Scandinavian design.

Born in 1950 and designed by Charles & Ray Eames, the DSW chair (Dining Height Side Chair Wood Base) was created ad hoc in response to the urgency of furniture needed after WW2. It is definitely the product that better represents Charles and Ray Eames’ philosophy to give the most with the least possible.

Something all of us take for granted today, the option to customise the chairs' seat for multi functionality was a pioneer and unique idea brought by Charles & Ray Eames. A seat that could be combined with a variety of different bases, that can be configured for every kind of situation, looking as at home in an office as it did at the dining table.

A practical, robust design that was easy to clean and could be used in all sorts of situations. The chair was a huge success and it wasn’t long before this iconic chair began to appear in homes, offices and public buildings across the globe. It enjoyed over four decades of great success before the environmental impact of fiberglass production began to be called into question.

In 1998, Polypropylene was introduced to the DSW shell fabrication process for sustainability. The materials have evolved over time, but the strength of the design concept remained the same and continually popular for over seven decades.

The DSW chair is the most widely used chair nowadays from refined ambiances to familiar and informal atmospheres, from kitchens to living rooms to offices.
